Dr Jones will talk about  his work with residents of Trowulan, Indonesia -  once the central city of the vast Majapahit maritime empire - and those residents' relationship to Majahapit artefacts.  His talk questions our notions of what an artefact is, and has implications for heritage management.

Seaweed has been used for food, fertiliser, fuel and much more over thousands of years. But how can archaeologists find out about past diets from bones and teeth? Why does fertilisation make cattle look like cannibals? And what will we use seaweed for in the future?
